The Park

A Community Performance

Created and co-directed by Brian Rhinehart

The Park is a visually arresting large-scale performance piece that blurs the boundary between theatre and reality. It puts one hundred and thirty years of human life onstage in a celebration of Sunset Park and the people who live around it, past and present. Presenting over two hundred and fifty characters played by actual residents of the neighborhood and a core group of professional actors, The Park is a kaleidoscopic embodiment of the complex life of a neighborhood over time.

This one hour show will take place at sunset in the park, against the backdrop of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline.

Our Goal

The creation of communal forms with everyday people, non-actors, is a model for a harmonious and participatory society. The need to heal and to rise above fear and distrust is satisfied by the simple decision to spend time together. That is the goal of this production, to bring diverse people together, performers and audience, and to immerse them in the life of the park, to make them a part of the daily routine and spectacle there.
