Brian Rhinehart

Working primarily as a director of devised theatre and collaborative playmaking, Rhinehart’s productions have been seen in The Czech Republic, Italy, Turkey, Poland, Scotland, Germany and the U.S. He assistant-directed the first national tour of The Wedding Singer and is a critically acclaimed actor (The New York Times, Show Business Weekly), performing in over 100 productions in the U.S. and Germany. The plays he has written or co-written have been seen in a variety of venues, from Off-Off Broadway to the site-specific. Brian is a Fulbright scholar and teaching-artist (University of Arts Braunschweig, Germany), an internationally published writer on the subject of contemporary theatre, and co-author of a book, titled Comedy Acting for Theatre: The Art and Craft of Performing in Comedies, published by Bloomsbury/Methuen. He is a Clinical Associate Professor of Directing and Devising at the Actors Studio Drama School in NYC, an instructor of theatre at S.W.U.F.E, in Chengdu, China, and he has given numerous seminars and workshops on acting, improvisation, and devising in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. He holds an MFA in Directing from The Actors Studio Drama School, and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Florida.
